- Martha Dodd was born on 10 March 1876 in Wake County, North Carolina, USA. She died on 28 May 1938 in Round Hill, Virginia, USA.
- Pioneering US broadcast journalist for seven decades from the early 1930's, and a disciple of the legendary Edward R. Murrow. Over his career, he worked for the three top commercial networks in the United States (principally CBS but later NBC and then ABC), as well as for National Public Radio -- the last, even as a nonagenarian. While with ABC News, he won broadcasting's 1979 George Foster Peabody Award for his "nearly 50 years of service as a thoroughly knowledgeable and articulate commentator on national and international affairs."
